Things to Know Before Getting a Puppy

Puppies are tiny, playful, affectionate little beings that you can easily carry everywhere. What is it not to love about a puppy? It is obvious that puppies are hard to resist, but there are things that you should know before you get one. If you havent had a puppy before, you need to get well prepared for one. In most cases, those who got a puppy were unaware of what was in store for them, and unfortunately, numerous puppies end up abandoned. It is something that we are trying to change, so check out the information below to find out more about what to expect from a puppy.

1. Make sure that you are ready for a puppy. Puppies are time-consuming. Raising a puppy requires more time and commitment than raising an adult dog. They need to be fed three to four times a day, they need to be taken outside immediately after eating or drinking so you dont get unpleasant surprises in the house, they will have accidents while being house-trained, and they cant be left alone for more than a few hours.

2. What kind of puppy is right for you? If you want to find the right answer to this question, you need to consider that they will end up growing, more or less, depending on the breed. Also, puppies are extremely active; some of them will remain equally active as adults, while others will slow down the rhythm a little bit. Hair coat type is another important factor to consider because you might not be willing to deal with shedding, and this happens a lot with certain breeds. If you are searching for a loving breed that has the looks and the smart wits, while it doesnt shed too much, our recommendation is to have a look at doodle crossbreeds. These are dogs that resulted from crossing Poodles with other breeds, and they are fantastic. You should learn more about doodles because I know that you are going to be pleasantly impressed.

3. How to find a new puppy. If you are sure that you want a dog, have a look at adopting. As mentioned above, crossbreeds are wonderful, and it is a pity that they are underrated. Check out rescue groups and local animal shelters because these are places where you can find some amazing dogs who are waiting for a loving family.

4. Puppy-proof the house. Once you have found your puppy and are ready to take it home, begin puppy-proofing the house. Puppies can be very destructive, so do your best to dog-proof the area where they will spend most of the time. Hide electrical cords if this is possible, lock cabinets, keep laundry and shoes out of reach, keep houseplants as high as possible so they cant reach, and get a trash can that has a locking lid. All these will save you a lot of cleaning, and it will help you save time and money.

Puppies are great, and after you find the one that is right for you and your family, you can begin enjoying their unique personalities.
